My department needed to reduce vendor spending by 20% to meet company goals for 2023. In six months, we reduced it by 49% (and counting).
How?
The key was empowering anyone, at any level, to be able to contribute. To do this, I created a framework to evaluate opportunities, that allowed us to not only compare within a team, but across the company. With an increase in ideas, we could be more selective - picking the ones that not only reduced costs but made things better. We automated parts of people's jobs, removed pain points and tech debt, and reduced the company's exposure to risk ~ while demolishing our savings targets.
Combined with communication to highlight/encourage teams to focus on the RESULTS.
- Weekly updates to team/customers on wins (note: customers = employees outside of my department)
- Monthly/Quarterly updates to the company on their exceptional progress
I could not be prouder of what WE accomplished (and look forward to what our year-end number ends up being).
